The Seven Seals
LOGLINE
When
the world is hit by wars and natural disasters that mirror the Biblical
apocalypse, an atheist young woman crosses paths with a Christian
college ministry as they struggle to hold onto their morals and
survive.
SYNOPSIS
Madeline wakes up in a stranger’s home with a fractured memory
of the night before, and she realizes she was roofied and pressured
into sex. She goes home, and her adoptive mom scolds her for not asking
permission to go to the party, nor to sleep over.
Madeline expects to get grounded, but is instead kicked out of
the house because her adoptive mom wants to teach her that she can’t
survive the world without her.
With the help of her friends, Madeline visits all the nearby
hotels, but they’re all fully booked. Her friends laugh behind her
back, and Madeline realizes they knew she was drugged, yet did nothing
to help her. She gets into a fight with her friends and leaves.
On her university’s campus, Madeline tries to book an Airbnb, but her
adoptive mom blocked her credit card. A student tries to flirt with
her, and she is rescued by another stranger, David. David notices her
stress aside from the flirty stranger and tells her that when he’s
stressed, he goes to church. He explains that his church even let him
sleep there once and invites her to a college ministry event later that
evening. Madeline takes up his offer and goes to the modern church. She
sneaks upstairs in hopes of squatting there for the night, but is
caught and feels obligated to join the college ministry’s service. When
it’s over, the room with all her belongings is locked. She runs into
David, who invites her to hang out with the other students at the
beach.
Since she has no other option, Madeline joins the students at the
beach, but doesn’t fit in with the other girls who gossip about people
she has never met. David sees her all alone again, so he tries to be
her friend and offers her some food and a drink, but because the drink
is already open, Madeline gets mad and storms away, afraid to be
roofied again.
At the end of the night, one of the gossiping girls, Zoe, offers to
drive her home. Madeline lies and says that she forgot her apartment
keys, so Zoe lets her sleep over. The next morning, Zoe tells Madeline
that she’s been having apocalyptic nightmares. A cataclysmic earthquake
hits: the first sign that the apocalypse has arrived.
